Target Information
Porcine calcium release-activated calcium channel protein 1 (ORAI1) is a critical component of the calcium release-activated calcium (CRAC) channels. These channels play a pivotal role in calcium signaling, which is essential for a variety of cellular functions including the regulation of immune responses, muscle contraction, and the transmission of signals in the nervous system. In pigs, as in other species, ORAI1 is likely involved in the fine-tuning of intracellular calcium levels. The activation of these channels leads to an influx of calcium ions into the cell, which can trigger a range of physiological responses. The protein is particularly important in immune cells, where it contributes to the store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) pathway, a process that is activated when the cell's internal calcium stores are depleted.
