Target Information
Porcine epoxide hydrolase 2 (EPHX2) is an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the detoxification of xenobiotics and the biotransformation of endogenous epoxides. It catalyzes the conversion of reactive epoxides into less harmful diols, thereby modulating critical signaling pathways involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis. This enzyme is particularly important in the context of lipid metabolism, as it is involved in the hydrolysis of epoxy fatty acids, which are metabolites of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as arachidonic acid (AA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The hydrolysis of these epoxides by EPHX2 results in the formation of dihydroxyeicosatrienoic acids (DHETs), which have been linked to anti-inflammatory and antihypertensive effects.
