Porcine parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a key endocrine regulator that plays a crucial role in maintaining calcium homeostasis in pigs. PTH is secreted by the parathyroid glands in response to low blood calcium levels and acts on the bones, kidneys, and intestines to increase serum calcium concentrations. It stimulates bone resorption, enhances calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, and promotes calcium absorption in the intestines.
