Target Information

Porcine ring finger protein 8 (PRPF8) is a critical component of the spliceosome, which is responsible for the removal of introns from pre-mRNA and the ligation of exons during gene expression. PRPF8 plays a significant role in splice site selection and the regulation of alternative splicing events, which are essential for generating protein diversity in cells. As a target, PRPF8 interacts with various RNA molecules, including U5, U6, and U4 snRNAs, which are integral to the function of the spliceosome. It is particularly involved in the regulation of the splicing process through its interactions with the RNA helicase Brr2, which is necessary for the activation of the spliceosome. The PRPF8-mediated regulation of Brr2 is crucial for splice site selection and maintaining splicing fidelity.
