Target Information

Bovine beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) is the most abundant whey protein in bovine milk, accounting for over 50% of total whey proteins. It is known for its nutritional and functional effects on various biological processes and is thought to be involved in the transport of low-polarity micronutrients from mother to offspring. BLG is also recognized for its ability to bind to small hydrophobic ligands such as retinol, fatty acids, vitamin D, cholesterol, and aromatic compounds, which can alter their biological activities. The protein has potential health benefits, including antiviral, anti-cancer, and hypocholesterolemic effects, and serves as a source of bioactive peptides with a range of activities.
