Target Information

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is a widely utilized protein derived from the blood serum of cows. It is a homodimeric protein, composed of 609 amino acids per monomer, and is known for its heart-shaped structure, which is characteristic of albumin proteins. BSA has a molecular weight of approximately 66.3 kDa and is one of the most abundant proteins in bovine serum, constituting about 5% of the total serum protein. BSA is recognized for its ability to bind a variety of substances, including fatty acids, hormones, and certain drugs, making it a versatile tool in numerous biological and medical applications. It is commonly used as a non-specific protein in assays to reduce non-specific interactions, stabilize enzymes, and as a blocking agent in Western blotting and immunohistochemistry to prevent antibody binding to the membrane or slide surface.
