Target Information
Bovine transthyretin (TTR) is a protein primarily synthesized by the liver and the choroid plexus in the brain. It plays a critical role in the transport of thyroid hormones, particularly thyroxine (T4), from the bloodstream to target tissues. Additionally, TTR is involved in the transport of retinol (vitamin A) by binding to retinol-binding protein (RBP), ensuring its delivery from the liver to various cells. This protein also acts as a negative acute phase reactant, with its serum concentration decreasing in response to inflammation, trauma, or stress. In cattle, TTR is implicated in adipogenesis, potentially influencing the differentiation of adipocytes and the expression of key adipogenic markers such as PPARγ and FABP4.
