Target Information
Canine thrombomodulin (TM), encoded by the THBD gene, is a glycoprotein primarily located on endothelial cell surfaces and is a major regulator of vascular thromboresistance. It plays a crucial role in the anticoagulant process by binding thrombin and activating protein C, which inhibits the coagulation cascade. TM expression can be down-regulated in dogs with systemic inflammatory diseases, leading to an increased risk of thrombosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation. This protein is essential for maintaining vascular homeostasis and has anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties.
