Target Information
Porcine interleukin 12B (IL-12B) is a subunit of the heterodimeric cytokine IL-12, which plays a critical role in modulating immune responses. IL-12 is composed of two disulfide-linked subunits, p35 and p40, with IL-12B encoding the p40 subunit. This cytokine is primarily produced by antigen-presenting cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells, and it stimulates the production of IFN-γ by T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. IL-12 promotes the differentiation of T cells into Th1 cells, which are essential for cell-mediated immunity against intracellular pathogens. In pigs, IL-12 has been shown to enhance resistance to viral infections, such as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), by reducing viral loads and improving immune responses.
