Target Information
Bovine matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family, which are zinc-dependent endopeptidases that play crucial roles in the breakdown of extracellular matrix (ECM) in normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, tissue remodeling, and in disease processes like arthritis and metastasis. MMP9, also known as gelatinase B, is specifically known for its ability to degrade collagen types IV and V. In cattle, MMP9 is involved in a variety of physiological functions, including immune response modulation, tissue repair, and the maintenance of vascular integrity. It is also associated with the pathogenesis of various diseases, including viral infections and inflammatory conditions, due to its role in immune cell trafficking and activation. The expression and activity of MMP9 are tightly regulated to maintain a balance between tissue construction and degradation, and its dysregulation can lead to pathological conditions such as tissue fibrosis and cancer progression.
