Target Information
Haptoglobin is a protein produced by the liver. Its primary function is to find and attach itself to free hemoglobin in the blood. In dogs, haptoglobin is encoded by the HP gene. Haptoglobin gene expression has been demonstrated in canine white adipocytes. The ratio of C-reactive protein to haptoglobin has been shown to be prognostic in dogs with leptospirosis.
