Target Information

Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) is one of the four identified syndromes associated with shellfish toxicity, primarily linked to bivalve mollusks. PSP toxins, including the widespread saxitoxin, are generated by eukaryotic dinoflagellates and prokaryotic cyanobacteria. Individuals who ingest affected shellfish can be impacted by PSP.
