Target Information

The sulphonamides are a substantial group of entirely synthetic antibacterial agents that have been utilized in treating bacterial infections in fish since 1948, following the introduction of sulfamerazine in the USA. These compounds exert a bacteriostatic effect by hindering bacterial folic acid synthesis. Key members of this group include sulfadiazine, sulfadoxine, sulfalene, sulfamerazine, sulfamethizole, and sulfamethoxazole.
