Target Information

Amphotericin B, a polyene antifungal agent derived from a strain of Streptomyces nodosus, functions by increasing membrane permeability through binding to sterols in the cell membranes of susceptible fungi. Additionally, it binds to vertebrate cell membrane sterols, which is thought to be responsible for its toxicity in animals and humans. It is not recommended for use in animals with pre-existing renal disease.
