Target Information

Penicillins (P, PCN, or PEN) are a class of β-lactam antibiotics derived primarily from Penicillium molds, especially P. chrysogenum and P. rubens. These antibiotics eradicate bacteria by obstructing the synthesis of peptidoglycans, which are essential for the bacterial cell wall structure. Penicillin is used to treat bacterial infections in animals such as dogs, cats, cattle, horses, and swine.
