Target Information

Brucella melitensis, a Gram-negative coccobacillus bacterium belonging to the Brucellaceae family, is one of the causative agents of ovine brucellosis, alongside Brucella ovis. Animals can contract B. melitensis through venereal transmission. This bacterium can be detected in blood, urine, milk, and semen. Transmission to animals occurs via direct contact with the placenta, fetus, fetal fluids, and vaginal discharge of infected animals.
