Proteus is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria characterized by its rod shape, aerobic nature, and motility. These bacteria are capable of moving across surfaces through a "swarming" behavior, typically occurring at temperatures ranging from 20 to 37 °C. Proteus species can be found in many wild and domestic animals.
