Target Information

Avian leukosis virus (ALV) is an oncogenic virus that affects domestic and wild birds, leading to a range of diseases including lymphoid leukosis and other forms of cancer. ALV belongs to the Retroviridae family and is characterized by its ability to integrate its genetic material into the host genome, which can result in uncontrolled cell proliferation. The virus primarily targets cells of the lymphoid lineage, leading to the development of malignant tumors. The long latency period of ALV infection makes it challenging to detect and control in poultry populations. Key proteins of ALV include the envelope glycoprotein (gp85), which is involved in viral entry and cell fusion, and reverse transcriptase, which is essential for transcribing viral RNA into DNA.
