Target Information

Bovine viral diarrhea virus type 2 (BVDV-2) is a pestivirus that poses a significant threat to the cattle industry, causing diseases ranging from mild diarrhea to severe immunosuppression. The E2 protein of BVDV-2 is a major envelope glycoprotein that is crucial for the virus's ability to infect host cells. This protein is involved in the initial attachment to cellular receptors and mediates membrane fusion, facilitating viral entry. The E2 glycoprotein is highly immunogenic, eliciting a strong immune response in the host, and is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies. It is also a key antigen for diagnostic assays, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), used to detect BVDV-2 infections.
