Target Information
Influenza A virus (IAV) is a significant respiratory pathogen that affects a wide range of species, including humans, birds, and pigs. It is characterized by its ability to undergo antigenic drift and shift, leading to frequent mutations and the emergence of new strains. The virus's genome consists of eight single-stranded RNA segments, which encode for various proteins that are critical for its replication and pathogenicity. The primary targets of IAV are the epithelial cells of the respiratory tract. The virus gains entry into host cells through the interaction of its surface glycoprotein hemagglutinin (HA) with sialic acid receptors on the host cell surface. Once inside, the virus's neuraminidase (NA) enzyme facilitates the release of newly formed virions from the host cell
