Target Information
Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health challenge caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The pathogen primarily targets the lungs but can also affect other organs. Key targets for TB research and intervention include the cell wall component mycolic acid, which is crucial for the bacterium's survival and contributes to its resistance to antibiotics. The mycobacterial cell wall also contains the antigen 85 complex (Ag85), a family of proteins involved in cell wall synthesis and a target for diagnostic tests.
