Target Information

Porcine coronavirus spike protein (S protein) is a critical surface glycoprotein found on the virions of porcine coronaviruses, such as porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and swine acute diarrheal syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV). This protein mediates the initial attachment of the virus to host cell receptors, playing a pivotal role in viral entry and infection. The S protein is composed of two subunits, S1 and S2, where S1 is responsible for receptor binding and S2 facilitates membrane fusion. The S protein is highly immunogenic, eliciting a strong host immune response, making it a primary target for diagnostic assays and vaccine development.
