Target Information

Tachyzoites are the rapidly dividing and infectious stage of the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which is responsible for the disease toxoplasmosis. These small, crescent-shaped organisms are highly motile and can actively invade host cells, leading to infection. The tachyzoites' ability to invade and replicate within host cells is facilitated by a specialized secretory organelle called the rhoptries and micronemes, which release proteins that manipulate host cell functions and promote parasite entry. Once inside the host cell, tachyzoites multiply asexually, causing cell rupture and spreading to adjacent cells.
