Target Information
Chlamydiaceae is a family of Gram-negative bacteria that belong to the phylum Chlamydiae. Chlamydiaceae are unique bacteria with a biphasic developmental cycle. They exist in two distinct forms, the infectious elementary body (EB) and the replicative reticulate body (RB). Chlamydiaceae are typically transmitted between hosts through direct contact with infected secretions or by inhaling airborne particles containing the bacteria. Chlamydia psittaci is a significant pathogen in birds and can cause severe respiratory disease in humans who come into contact with infected birds.
