Target Information

Fragilysin is a metalloproteinase, specifically a zinc-dependent metalloprotease, that is secreted by Bacteroides fragilis. This toxin contributes to the bacterium's ability to invade host tissues and evade the host immune response. Fragilysin is known to have cytotoxic effects on eukaryotic cells and can disrupt the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier.
