Target Information
The influenza A virus H9 subtype hemagglutinin (HA) is a key surface glycoprotein that is fundamental to the virus's infectivity. This HA mediates the initial binding of the virus to host cell receptors, predominantly recognizing and binding to sialic acid moieties on the cell surface. Post binding, the HA undergoes a conformational change that is crucial for the fusion of the viral and host cell membranes, allowing the viral genetic material to be injected into the host cell. The H9 subtype HA is a significant target for antiviral strategies because of its essential role in the viral entry mechanism. Neutralizing antibodies that target the HA can prevent the virus from binding to host cells, thereby inhibiting viral infection. Moreover, the HA is a principal component of the influenza vaccine, which is designed to stimulate an immune response that provides immunity against the virus.
