Target Information
Clostridium botulinum is a bacterium that produces potent neurotoxins known as botulinum toxins. It is a Gram-positive, spore-forming anaerobic bacterium. There are several types of Clostridium botulinum, designated as types A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, each producing a distinct toxin. Clostridium botulinum type D produces botulinum toxin Type D, which is a potent neurotoxin. Avian botulism caused by Type D toxin can lead to paralysis, weakness, and incoordination in birds.
