Target Information
Porcine C-reactive protein (CRP) is a conserved acute-phase protein found in pigs, which plays a significant role in the innate immune response. CRP is produced primarily by the liver in response to inflammation and infection, and its levels can increase dramatically in the bloodstream as part of the body's defense mechanism. This pentameric protein is a member of the pentraxin family and is recognized for its ability to bind to phosphocholine, a component of various pathogens, as well as to damaged cells. The binding of CRP to these targets facilitates their clearance by the immune system and activates complement system proteins, enhancing the overall immune response.
