Target Information
Porcine calcyphosine (pCalcyphosine), also known as calcium-binding protein 2 (CaBP2) or frequenin, is a calcium-binding protein found in pigs that plays a significant role in the regulation of intracellular calcium levels. pCalcyphosine is particularly abundant in the brain and is involved in various neuronal functions, including the modulation of neurotransmitter release and the regulation of synaptic plasticity. This protein is characterized by its ability to bind calcium ions with high affinity, which allows it to act as a calcium sensor and participate in calcium-dependent signaling pathways. pCalcyphosine is also implicated in the process of exocytosis, where it helps to regulate the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the plasma membrane, leading to the release of neurotransmitters.
