Target Information
Porcine heat shock 70kDa protein 4 (HSPA4), also known as Hsp70, is a highly conserved molecular chaperone found in the cytosol of eukaryotic cells, including pigs. It plays a crucial role in protein homeostasis by assisting in the folding, assembly, and translocation of newly synthesized polypeptides, as well as in the refolding of misfolded proteins. Hsp70 has ATPase activity, which is essential for its chaperone function, and it cycles between an ATP-bound state with low substrate affinity and an ADP-bound state with high substrate affinity. In pigs, Hsp70 is not only involved in the response to heat stress but also in various other stress conditions such as oxidative stress, toxins, and disease states. It has been shown to have anti-apoptotic properties, which suggests its potential role in protecting cells from various insults, including those associated with neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. The protein's expression can be up-regulated in response to proteotoxic stressors, highlighting its importance in cellular defense mechanisms.
