Target Information
Porcine myosin light chain 2 (MLC2) is a pivotal component of the myosin molecule, which is essential for muscle contraction in pigs. Myosin, a motor protein, forms part of the thick filaments in muscle fibers and interacts with actin to generate force and movement. MLC2, specifically, is one of the light chains that associate with the myosin heavy chain, contributing to the proper assembly and function of the myosin head, which is responsible for the motor activity. This regulatory light chain plays a critical role in the calcium-dependent activation of the myosin ATPase, which is a key step in the cross-bridge cycling that leads to muscle contraction. MLC2 is subject to phosphorylation, a modification that can increase the ATPase activity of myosin and enhance the force of contraction.
