Target Information
Porcine phosphoglycerate mutase family member 5 (pPGAM5), also known as phosphoglycerate mutase 5 or brain glycogen phosphorylase, is an enzyme that plays a significant role in cellular metabolism. pPGAM5 is involved in the conversion of 3-phosphoglycerate to 2-phosphoglycerate, a key step in both glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, the metabolic pathways that break down glucose to produce energy and synthesize glucose from non-carbohydrate sources, respectively. This protein is highly expressed in the brain and skeletal muscle, where it contributes to the regulation of energy metabolism. In pigs, pPGAM5 may be particularly important for supporting the high-energy demands of the brain during periods of cognitive activity and for maintaining muscle function and energy homeostasis.
