Target Information

Porcine stanniocalcin 2 (STC2) is a glycoprotein hormone that belongs to the stanniocalcin family, which is involved in the regulation of mineral and electrolyte balance in pigs. STC2 is primarily produced in the corpuscles of Stannius, a specialized endocrine tissue in fish, and its homologous expression in pigs is typically found in the kidneys and certain endocrine cells. This protein plays a crucial role in the maintenance of calcium and phosphate homeostasis, which is essential for various physiological processes, including bone mineralization, nerve function, and muscle contraction. STC2 is believed to exert its effects by modulating the transport of calcium and phosphate in the kidneys, thereby influencing their levels in the bloodstream.
