Target Information
Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) is proving to be an effective marker for identifying mycotoxin-induced nephropathy. Initially known as TIM-1 (T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin-containing molecule), KIM-1 serves as a sensitive, noninvasive urinary biomarker. Its gene expression is minimal in healthy kidneys but rises significantly in response to damage and subsequent repair of proximal tubular cells.
