Target Information
Sheeppox is a highly contagious disease affecting sheep, caused by a poxvirus distinct from the mild orf virus. It belongs to the Poxviridae family and the Capripoxvirus genus. The Sheeppox virus (SPV) is considered the most severe among animal pox diseases, leading to substantial economic losses due to the deterioration of wool and leather quality. The virus penetrates the host cell through endocytosis, initiated by the binding of viral proteins to the host's glycosaminoglycans.
