Target Information

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a retrovirus responsible for enzootic bovine leukosis in cattle and is closely related to human T‑lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-I). Infected B‑lymphocytes may harbor BLV as an integrated DNA provirus or as unintegrated circular or linear DNA forms. While the majority of infected cattle show no symptoms, approximately 5% may develop leukemia, and around 30% experience lymphoproliferation.
