Target Information
Canine intraflagellar transport 81 homolog (cIFT81) is a protein in dogs that is homologous to the human Intraflagellar Transport 81 (IFT81) protein. cIFT81 plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of cilia and flagella, which are hair-like structures extending from the surface of cells that are essential for various cellular functions, including cell signaling, motility, and the sensation of the cell's environment. As part of the intraflagellar transport system, cIFT81 contributes to the movement of cargo within cilia, a process known as intraflagellar transport (IFT). IFT is vital for the assembly, disassembly, and overall dynamics of cilia. Mutations in IFT81 have been associated with defects in ciliary function, which can lead to a spectrum of human diseases collectively known as ciliopathies.
