Target Information
Porcine involucrin is a protein that is a component of the keratinocyte crosslinked envelope, found in the cytoplasm and crosslinked to membrane proteins by transglutaminase. It is expressed in a range of stratified squamous epithelia, including the cornea, and is first expressed in the upper spinous layers of normal epidermis. Involucrin plays a crucial role in the structural integrity of epithelial cells and is involved in the formation of a protective envelope in keratinocytes. Its expression is abnormal in squamous cell carcinomas and premalignant lesions, and is reduced in severe dysplasias, making it a significant marker for epithelial differentiation and tumorigenesis.
