Target Information
Porcine lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3), also known as acyl-CoA: lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase, is an enzyme that plays a vital role in the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC), a major component of cellular membranes. This enzyme catalyzes the acylation of lysophosphatidylcholine to form PC, a process essential for membrane integrity and fluidity in cells of pigs. LPCAT3 is involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism and has been implicated in various physiological processes, including the maintenance of pulmonary surfactant homeostasis, which is critical for the proper functioning of the lungs. Disruptions in LPCAT3 activity can lead to imbalances in lipid metabolism and have been associated with metabolic disorders and respiratory diseases.
