Target Information
Porcine serpin peptidase inhibitor clade A member 7 (pSERPINA7), also known as pig alpha-1-antitrypsin, is a member of the serpin superfamily of proteins that function as protease inhibitors. pSERPINA7 plays a critical role in the regulation of proteolytic activity within the pig's body, particularly in the lungs and liver. This protein is specifically designed to inhibit trypsin-like serine proteases, thereby preventing excessive proteolysis that could lead to tissue damage and inflammation. The primary function of pSERPINA7 is to protect the lungs from the destructive effects of neutrophil elastase, a protease released by immune cells during inflammation.
