Target Information
Senecavirus A (SVA), previously known as seneca valley virus, is a pathogen that affects both domestic and wild pigs, causing significant economic losses in the swine industry. It is a non-enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Picornaviridae family. SVA primarily targets the epithelial cells of the pig's skin and mucous membranes, leading to vesicular and ulcerative lesions, particularly in the oral cavity, snout, and feet. The virus can also cause reproductive disorders in sows, such as abortions and stillbirths.
