Target Information
Usutu virus (USUV) is an emerging mosquito-borne pathogen that has been associated with encephalitis in humans and various bird species. The envelope protein of USUV, known as E protein, is a key component of the viral envelope and plays a crucial role in the virus's ability to infect host cells. This protein is involved in the initial attachment to host receptors and facilitates the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, allowing the release of the viral genome into the host cell. The E protein is an attractive target for antiviral strategies due to its critical involvement in the viral entry process. Inhibiting the function of the E protein could prevent USUV from binding to and entering host cells, thereby limiting the spread of infection.
