Target Information
Canine IL-4 (interleukin-4) is an important cytokine involved in the immune system. Studies show that its balance with IL-12 influences the inflammatory response in dogs infected with Leishmania. Its presence has been observed in the spinal cords of both young and old Beagle dogs. IL-4 gene expression is high in dogs with leishmaniasis, potentially favouring parasite replication. It is biologically active in canine articular chondrocytes and can suppress inflammatory mediators. Research also indicates its role in cell proliferation, B cell costimulation, T-helper 2 cell differentiation and negative regulation of inflammatory response among other processes.
