Target Information
Brucella canis, a Gram-negative bacterium belonging to the Brucellaceae family, is responsible for causing brucellosis in dogs and other canids. First identified in the United States in 1966 during large-scale abortion outbreaks in beagles, the disease in males manifests as epididymitis and orchitis, while in females it leads to endometritis, placentitis, and abortions, frequently resulting in infertility in both sexes.
