Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is a highly pathogenic strain of bacteria known for causing either watery or bloody diarrhea, the latter known as hemorrhagic colitis, as well as hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). EHEC strains typically reside in the intestines of healthy animals such as cattle, goats, deer, and sheep.
