Target Information
PPX, or phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase, is an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the synthesis of phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2), a critical lipid component of cellular membranes. PIP2 serves as a key signaling molecule involved in various cellular processes, including the regulation of ion channels and the activation of phospholipase C. As a lipid kinase, PPX catalyzes the phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate (PI4P) to produce PIP2, thereby modulating the levels of this important second messenger within the cell. The activity of PPX is tightly regulated, as PIP2 levels influence multiple signaling pathways and cellular responses.
