Target Information

Canine bardet-biedl syndrome 2 (cBBS2) is a gene in dogs that is associated with bardet-biedl syndrome (BBS), a rare genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems. BBS is characterized by symptoms such as retinal degeneration leading to blindness, obesity, polydactyly (extra fingers or toes), renal anomalies, and cognitive impairment. cBBS2 encodes a protein that is a component of the BBSome, a complex of proteins that function in the cilia of cells. Cilia are hair-like structures that protrude from the cell surface and are involved in various cellular processes, including the sensing of the cellular environment and the coordination of signaling pathways.
