Target Information
Canine Chromobox Protein Homolog 1 (CBX1), also known as HP1β, is a member of the heterochromatin protein family, playing a crucial role in epigenetic control of chromatin structure and gene expression. It is enriched in heterochromatin and associated with centromeres, regulating gene silencing through binding to methylated histone H3 tails. CBX1 contains an N-terminal chromodomain that binds to methylated lysine residues and a C-terminal chromo shadow-domain (CSD) responsible for homodimerization and interactions with other chromatin-associated proteins.
