Target Information
Feline parvovirus (FPV), a member of the Parvovirus genus within the Parvoviridae family, is a highly contagious virus that primarily affects the feline species, particularly kittens. It is known for its ability to cause severe gastrointestinal disease, often referred to as feline panleukopenia, which can be fatal if not treated promptly. The virus targets rapidly dividing cells, such as those in the bone marrow, lymphatic tissues, and intestinal crypts. This targeting leads to a suppression of the bone marrow function, resulting in a decrease in white blood cells, known as leukopenia, and damage to the intestinal lining, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration.
