Target Information

Porcine myosin binding protein C (MYBPC3) is integral to the regulation of muscle contraction by interacting with both the thick and thin filaments within the sarcomere. As a component of the thick filament, MYBPC3 plays a crucial role in stabilizing the OFF state of myosin heads and is involved in the modulation of sarcomeric function. The protein is composed of multiple domains that allow it to bridge myosin and actin filaments, influencing muscle contraction force and kinetics. Phosphorylation of MYBPC3 by various kinases, including protein kinase A (PKA), calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII), and protein kinase C (PKC), is a key regulatory mechanism that affects cardiac and skeletal muscle performance. This post-translational modification can lead to changes in the sarcomere lattice, impacting the calcium sensitivity of the thin filament and the cross-bridge cycling rates of myosin.
